Installing Splash Guards in Your Mercedes-Benz: DIY Tips

A splash guard, commonly known as a mud guard, is a rigid plastic deflector mounted behind your vehicle's tires. This critical exterior barrier in your Mercedes-Benz GLE350 physically blocks aggressive rocks, thick mud, and corrosive road salt from being slung violently against your lower doors. Without these deflectors, your rocker panels will quickly succumb to thousands of destructive micro-scratches.

How to Install New Splash Guards

1. Clean the Wheel Well

Wash and dry the painted fender lip thoroughly to ensure dirt isn't trapped in the wheel well.

2. Remove Factory Fasteners

Extract the existing plastic clips holding the lower portion of the inner fender liner.

3. Position the Deflector

Align the molded splash guard perfectly flush against the painted fender lip.

4. Insert the Hardware

Push the new, extended OEM retaining clips firmly through the guard and into the liner.

5. Tighten the Screws

Secure the lower mounting screws snugly without overtightening and cracking the ABS plastic.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do genuine splash guards require drilling?
Most OEM guards utilize preexisting factory fender liner holes for completely non-destructive installation.
Can I install them myself at home?
Yes, installation usually only requires a screwdriver and a simple plastic trim removal tool.
Will aftermarket guards fit correctly?
Generic flat flaps never contour to complex luxury body lines and look incredibly cheap.
